Melissa Thorson

Melissa’s passion for dogs began nearly 20 years ago with her family’s first springer, Abbey, from breeders Laurin Howard and Kerri Fredrick.  But it wasn’t until her mom took her to a dog show that she had any idea of the role dogs would play in her life. Watching that day, she immediately knew that was something she wanted to try. Little did she know all the possibilities and the excitement to come in the years ahead.   
Eventually, her mother began to search for a springer for Melissa to show in Junior Showmanship. They decided on Aspen Ashwin’s Come Join the Parade “Macy”, bred by Jacquie Dean and Carol Hathaway. In addition, many breeders were generous with their time to mentor her and frequently provided their more experienced springers for Melissa to show. Melissa’s talent was quickly noticed. Melissa was awarded multiple Best Junior Handler awards and qualified for junior showmanship at Westminster.

Melissa became involved with Foxboro Farms in 2012 when she needed a dog for her final year in Junior Showmanship. Susan offered CH Foxboro Paid in Full “Elliot” to her. Elliot quickly stole her heart and it took no time at all for them to become a team. Post Junior Showmanship, Melissa continued to show Elliot and he earned his grand championship as a veteran with a group win and multiple group placements. After high school graduation, Melissa was invited to help at Susan’s kennel at Foxboro Farms.  She and Susan have worked together ever since, to breed high-quality springers.
